Smoke tests in your neighborhood
The smoke used during smoke tests is odorless, creates no fire hazard and should not enter your home or business unless you have defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps. The smoke used is manufactured for this purpose and leaves no residuals or stains and has no effect on plants and animals.
The test involves sending smoke into the sewer system to check for leaks, breaks and defects in the system. Any defects found will be photographed and logged. Smoke testing is part of our continuing effort to provide an efficient and environmentally sound sewer system.
How long will the smoke testing take?
The smoke testing will take about 20 minutes to complete.
Will I be notified?
Yes, before testing takes place you will be notified with a door hanger.
Prior to testing
Prior to testing, please pour 2 gallons of water in any seldom used sinks or floor drains to prevent sewer gases, smoke or odors from entering the premises.
If you have any health concerns please call our customer service call center at 407-944-5000. We will notify the crews in the field to let you know when they will be in your neighborhood. This will give you time to leave the house if you so choose while they are smoke testing.
I have pets
Will the smoke hurt my pet(s)? No harm will come to your pets.
If my pet(s) breathe in the smoke will they be hurt? No, they will not be harmed.
Do I have to bathe my pet(s) if they come in contact with the smoke? The smoke is designed not be harmful to your pets or their skin.
What happens if the smoke enters my home or business?
Contact one of the uniformed crew members outside. They will be happy to help you locate where the smoke is coming from. Smoke entering the home/business is an indication of a plumbing defect. Residents will be provided the opportunity to have any minor defects repaired by Toho Water Authority at no cost. The smoke will
dissipate in 5-10 minutes. You can open the doors and windows to air out the premises as well.
Do I need to be home when the testing happens?
No, you do not need to be home at the time of testing. Toho Water Authority will contact property owners
if a defect is located on their property.
Residents will be provided the opportunity
to have any minor defects repaired by Toho Water Authority at no cost.
